The Opinel 4-Inch Sharpening Rod is a compact stainless steel honing tool made to keep your Opinel folding knife cutting efficiently with regular touch-ups. At just $7.00, it is the cheapest way to protect the edge on every knife you already own. Buy online today and pair it with your favorite blade.
Hold the rod in one hand and draw the blade across the steel at roughly a 20-degree angle, matching the factory Opinel edge. Make 5–10 light strokes per side, alternating sides, using only the weight of the knife. Honing realigns the edge rather than removing metal, so frequent use keeps knives sharp longer.
For everyday-carry knives, a quick hone every week or two keeps the edge performing. The rod will not resurrect a dead edge—you will need a whetstone for that—but consistent honing delays that need considerably, saving you sharpening time and money.
Yes. This honing steel works on Opinel's stainless steel and carbon steel blades alike, realigning the edge on either steel type.
Compared with larger sharpening steels costing $20 or more, this pocket-size rod delivers the edge maintenance most Opinel users actually need at a fraction of the price. Add it to a knife order to clear the $45 free-shipping threshold and save on shipping too.

I keep this in my pack with my Opinel No.08 and it brings the edge right back after a day of whittling. Four inches is plenty for a folding knife, and the satin finish wipes clean. For seven bucks, just buy it.
It's tiny, obviously, so you're not honing a chef's knife with it. For my little folder though, a few strokes on each side and it's slicing paper again. Would love a slightly longer version for travel.
Works great, fits in the pocket. Recommended.
Build quality is nice for the price and the stainless doesn't rust in my tackle box. That said, 4 inches only covers part of the blade, so I end up doing multiple passes. Fine for touch-ups, not a real sharpening solution.
One for the glovebox, one for the fishing bag. I'm 62 and have used honing steels since my butcher days, and while this little guy won't replace a bench stone, it handles quick touch-ups on my Opinels and small Case knives beautifully. The handle has a nice heft and the rod is straight as an arrow.
Exactly what the listing says. A few light strokes refreshed the edge on my No.12 before a camping trip. The satin finish looks classy and it hasn't picked up any rust after a wet weekend out.
No fault in the quality, but I misjudged how small 4 inches actually is. Honing the tip of even a folding knife feels awkward and I almost nicked my knuckles twice. Sending it back.
