Reviewers and collectors praise the No.6 as the sweet-spot size: light enough for pocket or bag carry, large enough for real cutting tasks. The Colorama adds a colorful handle to the classic No.06 format.
For package opening, food prep on picnics, and general EDC, no – the No.06 blade handles daily tasks comfortably. For heavier field work, step up to the No.08.
Patented in 1955, the rotating Virobloc ring locks the blade open during use and closed during carry and storage – simple, fast, and reliable.
Sandvik 12C27 Modified stainless steel with added chrome for corrosion resistance and 0.40%+ carbon for an excellent, easily sharpened edge – no special maintenance required.

Plastic multi-tools cost more and lack the Sandvik steel; the Crowned Hand emblem and Virobloc lock make the No.6 the value leader in budget EDC.

No – it's lightweight and sized for packages, picnics, and daily cutting. For heavier tasks, consider the larger No.08.
Rotate the ring collar to lock the blade open during use, or closed for safe carry and storage.
French-made Sandvik steel and the Virobloc lock outperform similarly priced plastic-handled folders.

Lightweight, razor sharp out of the box, and the Virobloc lock is simple and solid. The Colorama orange handle means I never lose it in my pack. For $11 it's unbeatable.
The blade came scary sharp and holds an edge well. Opening the ring lock takes some finger strength at first. Great everyday knife.
Cut apples, tape, twine — everything. Love it.
I've owned an Opinel No. 8 for years and picked up this No. 6 in the orange for pocket carry. The smaller size disappears in a jeans pocket and still handles food prep, packages, and camp chores. The Sandvik stainless blade took a proper edge and the Virobloc ring locks it open or closed with a quarter turn. No pocket clip, but the slim profile makes that irrelevant. For the price, nothing else comes close.
Sharp, light, and well made, but the rotating collar is stiff and my older fingers struggle with it. Works fine once it's open.
Got this for my 12-year-old's first real knife. The lock keeps it safely closed in his pocket and the orange handle is easy to spot if he sets it down. He's opened about fifty packages with it already.
Lives in my pack's lid pocket for cheese, salami, and rope. Held up through two seasons of trips. Blade is thin, so don't pry with it.
Mine arrived with noticeable side-to-side play in the blade even when locked. Functioned okay for light tasks but I expected tighter fitment from Opinel's reputation.
Hiking in the Alps growing up, everyone carried an Opinel. This Colorama version adds fun color to a timeless design. Slice cheese on a mountain, sharpen a marshmallow stick, open mail at home — it does it all.
One for me, one for my truck, one for the tackle box. At this price you'd be silly not to. Sharp, light, and the lock actually works.
Smooth action after a week of use, great steel, classic look. Handle is a bit slick when wet — the wooden versions grip better.
I'm 68 and this little knife trims, deadheads, and cuts twine all morning. Light enough that I forget it's in my apron pocket. A joy.
