Yes. The integrated tick remover is the safest and easiest way to remove ticks from both people and pets, with dual-sized slots sized for ticks of every size. Insert the tick into the appropriate slot, twist, and lift — the tool grips the tick fully for swift, clean removal in the field.
The multi-material fiber-reinforced handle withstands extreme temperatures, knocks, and water exposure. The detachable cutting hook comes apart for easy cleaning and includes a lanyard hole for securing the knife anywhere.
Blade cutting, twine cutting, gutting hook work, emergency signaling (110 dB whistle), and tick removal for humans and pets — all in one pocketable folding tool.
Trusted by paragliders, sailors, hunters, and foragers worldwide. Ideal for camping, hiking, hunting trips, and outdoor work with dogs. Pairs well with a fixed blade or multitool as a lightweight backup.
Compared to the standard Opinel No. 12, the Explore adds the whistle, tick remover, and cutting hook in a weatherproof handle. Compared to other outdoor folding knives like the Buck or Gerber lines, the Explore packs more safety features at this sale price.

Took this on a four-day backpacking trip and it handled everything — cutting cord, slicing salami, prepping kindling, and yes, pulling a tick off my dog. The Virobloc lock is rock solid with zero blade play, and the 110 dB whistle gave me real peace of mind when my son wandered ahead on the trail. The green finish looks great and the tool disappears into a pack pocket. At 50% off it's honestly a must-buy for anyone who spends time outdoors.
Hike in New England and you'll understand. Used the tick tool twice already this season.
I'm in my sixties and folding knives can be fiddly for me, but this one opens smoothly and the rotating collar lock is easy to operate even with slightly stiff fingers. The cutting hook handled a seatbelt strap test just fine and the whistle is surprisingly loud. Everything has a purpose out here — nothing feels like a gimmick. French craftsmanship with modern sensibility. Very pleased.
Bought this as a demo knife for teaching scout knife safety and the kids are obsessed with it. The lock mechanism is a great teaching tool because it's visible and intuitive. Blade took a beating cutting rope and whittling for two weekends and still slices paper cleanly. Durable, safe, and smart.
Everything works as promised — the lock is secure, the whistle is genuinely loud, and the tick remover has earned its spot on the handle. The steel is decent but the edge dulled quicker than my fixed blades after some hard wood work. A few minutes on a stone brought it right back. For the price, still an easy recommendation.
The whistle and tick remover sound like marketing fluff until you actually need them. Used the hook to cut paracord cleanly and the blade for general camp tasks. Only minor gripe is it's a bit bulky in a jeans pocket, so it lives in my pack instead. Quality feels very good for the money.
Does everything I need on weekend trips. Lock is positive, blade is sharp, and the extra tools are actually useful rather than gimmicky. Handle is comfortable even with wet hands. Would buy again.
Overall I like it — the design is clever and the green finish is attractive. However my unit has a small amount of lateral play when locked that I didn't expect from Opinel's reputation. It doesn't affect light cutting tasks and I'm probably being picky, but for a safety-critical tool I notice it. Might just be mine. Customer service was responsive when I asked about it.
Loved the knife for the first month — sharp, locks well, everything I wanted. Then the whistle stopped producing sound; seems like the internal piece shifted or broke. The blade and tick tool still work fine but I bought partly for the safety features. Returning for an exchange and hoping the next one holds up.
