The No.12 is Opinel's standard large folder; the No.13 dwarfs it at nearly 20 inches open versus roughly 12.3 inches for the No.12. If you're comparing sizes, the No.13 is the showpiece, not the daily carrier.
Added in the 1970s as a novelty, the No.13 became a global collector favorite. Buyers use it as a display piece, conversation starter, camp novelty, and shelf centerpiece — some even use it for large cutting tasks.
At nearly 20 inches open, the No.13 is subject to local knife-length laws. Check your state and city regulations before carrying; most buyers keep it as a collector's item rather than an EDC.

Bought this for my husband's birthday and it has been the star of every garage gathering since. Nearly twenty inches of French knife that actually opens and locks properly — the Virobloc ring is satisfyingly solid even at this scale. The beech handle is smooth and warm in the hand. Display item or party trick, either way it's a winner.
The detail work on this giant is remarkable. It's a real working folding knife, just scaled up absurdly. The blade came sharp, the lock engages cleanly, and the wood grain on the handle is lovely. Hung it on the workshop wall and everyone asks about it.
Fun oversized version of the classic. Out of the box the edge was decent but not hair-popping, so I touched it up myself. Still five stars for novelty and build quality, minus one for needing that extra minute with a strop.
It's well made and honestly impressive to unfold, but let's be real — nobody's using a 20-inch folding knife for daily tasks. Fine as a collectible or gag gift. The hinge feels a little loose after a few months of opening and closing it for guests.
My teenage son saw one of these online and I surprised him with it for Christmas. He was speechless. It's genuinely well built — real Virobloc lock, real steel, real beech wood. Not a toy, and we treat it accordingly. Best gift I've bought in years.
I understand it's an oversized knife, but the blade takes real muscle to swing open, and my arthritic hands simply can't manage it. My son opens it for me and it does look magnificent on the mantel. Just be aware it isn't effortless.
Added the No.13 Giant to my Opinel wall and it anchors the whole collection. Fit and finish are excellent for the price, especially at this sale price. The Virobloc collar turns with a nice firm click. If you love the classic No.8, this is the ultimate flex.
