I've owned standard Opinels for thirty years and this limited edition is something else entirely. The brute de forge finish on the carbon blade is striking up close — you can see the hammer marks and it feels genuinely handmade. The ebony handle is dense, dark, and beautifully figured on mine. For $50 it's honestly a steal for a numbered piece. It cuts like a razor and the lockup is rock solid.
This thing looks like it was forged by a blacksmith in a mountain village, because it basically was. The carbon steel took a scary-sharp edge in about two minutes on my strop. Yes, it will patina and yes, you have to wipe it down, but that's the whole point.
Gorgeous knife, no complaints about the fit or finish. Just know that carbon steel demands maintenance — mine developed a light patina within a week of pocket carry. If you're used to stainless, be ready to oil it. Still, the ebony handle and forge finish make it worth it.

The blade and handle are lovely, but the folding action on mine was stiff out of the box and the wood grain on the handle is much plainer than the photos. It's a good knife once I worked some wax into the joint, just not quite the showpiece I expected.
I picked this up half expecting a display piece, but it's become my everyday carry. The No.08 size disappears in the pocket, and the carbon blade out-cuts all my stainless folders. Patina is already starting to give it character. Highly recommend grabbing one while they're still available.
Half off a limited edition Opinel seemed too good to be true, but it's legit. The forge finish is rustic in the best way and the lockup is tight. Docking a star only because the blade needed a touch of honing before it was hair-popping sharp.

Three months in and mine has developed a gorgeous grey-blue patina that makes every mark a story. The brute de forge texture grips waxed leather nicely in the pocket. Functionally it's still an Opinel — simple, light, brilliant cutting geometry — but the forged blade elevates it into something you'll pass down.
