The Opinel No.13 Giant Folding Knife Collector Edition is the boldest blade in the Opinel catalog: a working folding knife scaled up into a genuine statement piece with a giant stainless steel blade, beech wood handle, and Virobloc lock. Originally added to the line in the 1970s as a novelty, the No.13 became a cult favorite. Secure yours now at $85.00 – down from a $200 compare-at price – with expected shipping within 1–2 weeks.
The No.13 is enormous by folding knife standards: its blade measures roughly 10 cm (nearly 4 inches) plus, with an overall length around 50 cm (nearly 20 inches) when open, and it carries like a small sword when opened. It dwarfs the No.12, the next-largest regular production size, and is nearly double the footprint of the popular No.08.
The No.12 is already a large knife; the No.13 goes further with a visibly longer blade, thicker beech handle, and dramatically larger Virobloc collar. Choose the No.12 for practical big-blade tasks; choose the No.13 for display, conversation, and novelty cutting tasks at home.
Because of its size, the No.13 is not a practical or legal everyday-carry knife in many jurisdictions. Treat it as a collector piece, display item, or camp novelty, and check your local knife laws before carrying it anywhere in public.
Limited circulation, a quirky 1970s origin story, and instant visual impact make the No.13 the most recognizable conversation piece in the Opinel range – a knife people remember seeing once.
At $85 versus $200, you save 57% on a collector-grade piece. It also clears the $45 free-shipping threshold, and coupon code BENCH10 takes another 10% off at checkout.

Put the No.13 on a shelf and guests will pick it up every time. It is a fully functional Opinel – Virobloc lock, sharp stainless blade, beech handle – scaled to unforgettable size.
At $85, you pay less than half the $200 compare-at price for one of the rarest sizes in the Opinel line. Pre-order stock is limited; the discount stands only while allocated units last.
It is Opinel's largest folding knife, with a roughly 10 cm blade and an overall open length approaching 20 inches (about 50 cm).
The No.13 is visibly larger than the No.12 in blade length, handle thickness, and overall presence – the No.12 is the practical big knife; the No.13 is the collector statement.
Its giant size makes it unsuitable for everyday carry and restricted in many jurisdictions. Buy it as a collector or display piece and check local knife laws.

It's enormous and that's exactly the point. Nearly a foot long folded, and when you open that blade in front of people there's an audible reaction every time. The Virobloc lock inspires real confidence at this size. display piece that also genuinely chops vegetables and slices melon like nothing.
Pre-order took a few weeks but it arrived beautifully boxed. The beech handle is smooth, chunky, and warm to hold. Knocking one star because the action is stiff out of the box—expected at this scale, and it's easing up with use.
Massive, well made, best conversation starter I own.
I've collected Opinels for thirty years, from the No.02 to the old No.12, and the No.13 is the crown jewel of the shelf. The proportions are perfect even at this scale—the same iconic profile, just scaled up like the giant chop knives of the Auvergne fairs. At $85 versus the old $200 list, I'd have paid double. Every knife friend who visits has to hold it.
No regrets exactly, but let's be honest: this is not a user knife. It's too big for pockets, borderline for a belt, and the blade is more novelty than tool for my purposes. Build quality is legit Opinel though, so three stars for delivering what it promises.
Bought this for my husband's 50th and he hasn't put it down since. He uses it to slice bread at family dinners purely for the theater of it. The lock ring is reassuring with a blade this size and the beech has already started developing a nice patina.
